Dear DUC and DSBC Members

Thank you for your support of the club over the festive season. After the COVID induced disruptions of the past years it was good to see the club “buzzing” again with member activity.

The club now reverts to being closed on Mondays and Tuesdays until the next holiday period as members return to work and education. Please find current club hours attached.

Durban Ski Boat Festival April 2022 – online entries.

You can now enter the DSBC Festival via the MyClubAccount website using the following link:

Early bird tickets are now available for purchase and non-members can enter as visitors on the website.

Should you have any queries regarding on-line entries, please email dave@pwsc.co.za

For those that prefer the more traditional entry form, we have attached it for your convenience.

For out-of-town members and participants, there is plenty of apartment rental accommodation available in the Point area within walking distance to the DSBC clubhouse and launch facility.

Participants in the event will be able to park their boats on the beach for the duration of the event and 24 hr security will be provided by the club.

For Point area accommodation enquiries:

Jason 0825202510 jason@alexprop.co.za

Angie 0828172957 angie@thepointwaterfront.co.za

As the Festival takes place over a holiday long weekend, we recommend booking accommodation now as these modern apartments are popular with holidaymakers.

Should you have any queries or require more information, please email Jackie: jackie@pwsc.co.za

Feedback on NSRI Fundraising Fishing Competition

Last month a social, fundraising fishing competition was hosted by the Durban Ski Boat which was a great success and R12 000 was raised for the National Sea Rescue Institute by anglers who supported the event.

The NSRI are our club neighbours and very welcome friends. As if to emphasis the point, a non-club boat that had launched from Ballitto, ran into trouble on the day of the comp and was towed to safety at our club launch site at Vetchs by the NSRI.

Please see the attachment for more information on what the NSRI does for all water sport users.

Feedback on Surf Ski Record attempt

PWC members, Brett Hadairis and Quinton Rutherford were successful in breaking the world record for the furthest distance in a double surf ski in a 24hr period on Monday 10th of January.

The NSRI were again on hand to escort the pair from Ballitto to base as darkness enveloped them and a sizable group of members were on hand to greet them on their arrival about 8pm. Brett and Quinton seemed remarkably fresh and chirpy after such a gruelling 220km paddle from St Lucia to the club.

The lucky draw of the raffle tickets for the R35000 double carbon Fenn elite will take place on Thursday 13th of January at the PWC after the Geriatski dice. Non-members who would like to attend the dice and draw will be able to park within the club grounds on Thursday evening.

A correction to our original communications about this event in that Elrigh Grace is the father of Farren. Our apologies for the error.

Beach Clean Up Saturday 15th January

Despite media reports, the uShaka and Vetchs beaches have remained open during the beach closures over the last two weeks. However, the debris washed out through the rivers and harbour mouths during the rains means that our club beach is need of TLC.

Please consider joining Billie-Jean and her crew on Saturday 15th January for the beach clean up. See attachment for details.
